Decor Tips:

  • Never mix different styles in the decoration of one room, unless you want to obtain an eclectic style intentionally. It doesn't mean that you can't have different styles in different rooms.
  • Make sure that your decoration helps to create the right atmosphere (your atmosphere).
  • The percentage of free space in a room should be higher that the occupied space, approximately 70 / 30 (for contemporary styles more space is recommended).
  • Try to approach as much as you can to the golden section or golden ratio rule while decorating, only a few people use this rule, those who know it. Sometimes there is something that you don't like in any room and you don't know why or what it is, that's because something is out of order or in a wrong place, or too big, or too small, or too close, or too far, or............, in other words, lack of golden ratio. Golden section is present on everything contained in the entire universe, and is a basic rule to create anything, of course, decoration too.

"Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication".
Quotation of Leonardo Da Vinci.

"Beauty is the purgation of superfluities."
Quotation of Michaelangelo.

  • Usually crown moldings are installed in any room, even in new houses with no decoration at all crown moldings are installed, it had became part of the market standards. What people don't know is that crown moldings are part of the decoration not the construction, the type, size and design of the moldings have to be decided along with the decoration project and, of course, according to the size, height and type of room. Then to consider if painting the moldings or leave them white or wood color (in case of wood moldings).
  • Choose a color palette with no more than three colors, one or two for the walls, and up to three for furniture and accessories for the room to be decorated.
  • If your room is small use light colors only, because dark colors make your room smaller.

  • Paint your ceiling in white, off white or a very light color (walls color related), the lighter the ceiling color is, the higher it looks, use darker colors, designs or murals only if your ceiling is higher than 12 feet and you don't need to create more vissual space than what in reality you have.
